I came across this word while reading Pamuk's last work "Manzaradan Parcalar" (It is not translated into English yet but the title roughly reads as "Excerpts from the View". It is a great read, as it is often the case with Pamuk but that is not the point now and here, at least not entirely.) It seems like a good title for blogging. I first thought of "Bloggin' In The Wind" but then luckily this time I did not let the idiot who takes over very frequently and makes me say and do things that are corny and stupid.

Ekphrasis or ecphrasis is the graphic, often dramatic description of a visual work of art. In ancient times it referred to a description of any thing, person, or experience. The word comes from the Greek ek and phrasis, 'out' and 'speak' respectively, verb ekphrazein, to proclaim or call an inanimate object by name. (Wiki)

A and R and a couple of other good friends of mine have been blogging for a while and I have been enjoying reading them but all the while my mind was busy with the idea of blogging as well or not. When I came across the word and its meaning, especially its meaning in ancient times, I decided to start one.

That, I shall assume, is a good enough explanation of why.

  1. Hey, good to see you here! I think ekphrasis is a great pretext or context or just plain text to get you into blogland.

  2. Did you know that "stioncti" was my verification word? Go figure!
